Mugicha 🌾
Mugicha is a cereal tea, more precisely a barley tea .
Barley is a cereal that has been consumed since Antiquity for its taste, of course, but also for its availability: it grows just as well in France as in Japan!
Barley has historically been consumed in Japan, in the form of an infusion, called “mugicha” with a fairly pronounced roasted nutty flavor. In addition to being a caffeine-free tea, which you can drink at any time of the day without losing sleep, mugicha has many benefits and advantages:
- Its taste is more pronounced than many infusions. Better: you can infuse it for a very long time: the taste is reinforced, not its bitterness.
- Mugicha is an anti-inflammatory drink .
- Mugicha is also a drink rich in antioxidants, like green tea, thanks to its richness in flavonoids.
- Roasted barley can be brewed hot or cold.
At Maison Aimi, we have been developing an AB certified organic mugicha since 2022. It is 100% made in France, from its cultivation to its packaging and roasting in France. As a bonus, you can opt for our bulk, zero waste offer, in its kraft pouch.
Sobacha 🌾
Like mugicha, sobacha is buckwheat tea , of Japanese origin.
Buckwheat is a pseudo-cereal widely consumed in the world that grows well in very poor soils. Often called black wheat, it is much less cultivated than wheat because its seed requires an additional preparation step, decortication.
Sobacha has been drunk since buckwheat was first cultivated in Japan, as well as in various Asian countries (under other names, such as memilcha in Korea or black buckwheat tea in China). Sobacha, in addition to being a caffeine-free cereal tea, has several benefits:
- Sobacha is a drink with a strong, very pronounced taste – which distinguishes it from herbal teas and plant infusions.
- It is a drink that can be brewed hot and cold.
Since 2023, Maison Aimi has released its range of organic and French sobacha , AB certified. Coming from French crops (and occasionally European ones), it is shelled using the Japanese method in our workshop in the southwest of France. As a brand with zero waste values, we offer a range of sobacha in bulk.
Rooibos 🌿
Rooibos is also called red tea. Contrary to what its name suggests, it is not a tea in the strict sense: it is the leaves of this shrub of South African origin that are infused and which offer a drink with a strong taste and a red, almost scarlet, color. In addition to having a powerful taste, rooibos has the particularity of being a tea without caffeine or theine.
Moringa 🌿
Moringa is a tree that grows in warm climates, in Japan, but also in India, South America and Africa. It is also called the “tree of life” or “miracle tree” because of the many uses it offers: its leaves and fruits can be consumed as human food or as fodder for livestock. Its leaves can be infused and give a caffeine-free drink with a herbaceous and slightly spicy flavor.
Decaffeinated tea 🫖
Did you know? Just like decaffeinated coffee, there is also decaffeinated tea . This is a tea that contains little or no caffeine. It is obtained by a process that consists of extracting the caffeine naturally contained in tea. There are versions of green, black and white decaffeinated tea.
Caffeine and theine-free tea is a tea that you can enjoy without struggling to fall asleep. Of Japanese origin, sobacha and mugicha are two caffeine-free cereal teas with many benefits that are worth discovering!
